The Story

Scubacat formed in late July 2006. Adam put an ad out calling for any non-professional musicians that just wanted to play because they loved to play.  It caught the attention of the newly arrived Francois via Montreal.  The two soon got together and by the next practice Jimmy had joined in with them.  Adam had responded to an ad Jimmy placed and they all worked together on Jimmy’s song Funky Mango.  When Sky found his way to the Berkeley hills, he really upped the bar for the rest of the guys, and then some really fun stuff began to happen.
Scubacat was born during the ominous spirit of Halloween and a hand full of great friends and family saw a show that was as raw and full of emotion and energy as the boys have ever played.
The course was then set in motion, the songs started to flow, the playing started to gel, and the focus tightened.
For their first appearance in the city they shared a rare show with Un Enfant, Francois’ alter-ego musical experience, and it was quite a night!  They continued to impress their new fans with an amazing, freaky, funky, Friday the 13th show at the historic Hotel Utah.  The show was packed from the floor to the balcony and Scubacat brought all they had, as they always do.  They even snuck in a sweet version of Brain Damage by Pink Floyd in the middle of on of their songs to mark the superstitious holiday.  Throughout 2007, Scubacat made their way playing all around the bay from Concord to Hayward to good old Berkeley and San Francisco.  Gathering new fans, and spreading the word about Scubacat everywhere they go.

The boys then decided to record a bunch of songs at Jimmy's new studio and at first things went well, they knocked out most drums and bass in the first day, but the overdubs took a while and schedules didnt allow the full completion of the project. As fate would have it before completing the recordings at the end of 2007, Francois left California for Montreal. Scubacat will always love their French Canadian connection and miss FV terribly, Au Revior Francois! Thank goodness only weeks later a chance comment at a watering hole with friends turned up Sam's name. Sam came over to play with Jimmy, Sky and Adam, and was an instant hit with the group for his his amazing drumming, excellent ear, his creativity and an infectious love for playing. Sam played his debut show with Scubacat in July '08 at Blakes and Scubacat played what many say was their best show yet! While booking shows and looking to finish recording towards the end of summer of 2008, Sky was finishing his time in the coast guard, and felt it was time for a change and ended up moving back to his homeground of Oklahoma.

Scubacat was busy for awhile trying some new players. They wrote, they rehearsed, they auditioned. Luckily Josh came over to jam on night and they all knew instanstly that he was the man! Josh has stepped into the bass role like he has always been there. Givin Scubacat that low end sound that is so sweet to shake your ass to, and boy these guys know how to JAM!

So right now, SCUBACAT is playing shows, writing new songs, recording a new demo and YES, HELL YES we will play at your, whatever! party, bar, dance hall, juke joint, email or call us!!!!!!
